Emergency Preparedness: Infectious Disease

The headlines can be stressful and overwhelming. Although we are hearing about a lot of fatalities, the Coronavirus may not necessarily kill a large number of people.

However, it will possibly infect a great number of people who will go on to survive. The real coming emergency is how quickly & efficiently people will be tested for Coronavirus and where victims will be treated.

We should be prepared to treat family members at home in case of a quarantine or in case the number of infected persons causes a healthcare crisis. A healthcare crisis occurs when the healthcare system is unable to provide care for a large minority of the population. What does that mean? That means hospitals may not have enough beds for the infected and may turn people away. While there is a confident rate of survival if you contract the Coronavirus as a normally healthy person, are you prepared to tough it out at home?
