Pearls Update:

July 6, 2020

Dr. Sheikh Umarr Kamarah was released from the CID headquarters in Freetown on Monday, June 15, 2020, after spending 12 days in detention.  Dr. Kamarah was never charged and his detention was never explained.

Social media pressure from Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora and at home pulled Paopa Government's card on its commitment to universal justice.

The #FreeSheikhUmarrKamarah hashtag, promoted by the Kamarah Family was instrumental in sounding an international alarm on potential human rights abuses in the land that love, our Sierra Leone.

A sincere and vivacious thank you to BBC Sounds, who reported on the arrest and detention of #DrKamarah.  An equally vivacious thank you to the entire community that said his name and raised awareness about his detention.

Lastly, a hearty thank to you to His Excellency President Maada Bio, the Attorney General Patricia Schwartz, the Inspector General of Police Ambrose M. Sovula, & the general players of our judiciary system for the expedient and fair handling of this situation.

We look forward to a comparably expedient investigation and clearance of our living legend, Dr. Sheikh Umarr Kamarah.

Fundraising:  GoFundMe

The GoFundMe campaign was started in June 2020 for Dr. Kamarah by his wife, Dr. Marie Umar-Kamara, was set up to assemble an astute legal team.  In just over a month, it has raised the funds to form a robust legal team in Sierra Leone.

The next step as a family and a community, is to wait for the investigations to be complete, so that Dr. Sheikh Umarr Kamarah may have his passport returned to him and he may rejoin his family in the US once again.

Thank you for your continued support at a time that has been very difficult for our family.  The love and support from friends and strangers alike on social media has been a most redeeming experience.  We are forever grateful.
